I’m beginning this blog to describe my efforts in navigating the world of self publishing, but it will probably end up a motley collection of my thoughts. I’ve had very mixed feelings about blogs since they became fashionable. We’ll see if I’m up to the task.
I am aware that I am one of what must be millions of people who have flooded the gates now that there is a method to bypass the gatekeepers. If anything, perhaps my statistics will be interesting. I published my first novella, ‘Anais of Brightshire’ on Smashwords on 03/05/2012. It took about a month for it to get into the Premium Catalog. I think it’s only been distributed to Diesel and Sony Ereader. I don’t know why it didn’t make it to the other catalogs. I decided to give it away for free, as I’m more seeking exposure at this point. This is what my statistics on Smashwords look like – see below – I’ve had 98 downloads . I also bought a nifty microphone and would like to figure out how to make an audiobook for the podiocasts website. I think making an audiobook is going to be harder than I first thought. I also put the book on LuLu, and Amazon. I haven’t figure out how to get it on Amazon for free. I don’t think it’s going to fare very well for $0.99. If anyone has figured out how to change the price on an Amazon book to free, please let me know. Unfortunately, I can’t sign it up for the Kindle Select program, since I put it on Smashwords first. There is some exclusivity clause.
